Black River

The Black River flows gently through Randolph County and Pocahontas. It is characterized by sandy beaches and abundant wildlife and vegetation. It played a significant role in travel and hunting for Native Americans and European explorers and later served development of the area as a means of moving timber and a “highway” for flatboats and riverboats that carried goods and people.
